Abstract
Numerical estimates of the achievable observation range using an underwater gated lidar with modified CCD or CMOS matrices under different turbidity of the aquatic environment have been carried out. It follows from the results of the calculations that lidars using common matrix receivers make it possible to implement active vision systems with an observation range acceptable for practice.

Key words
Underwater gated lidar, modified CCD matrix, turbidity of the aquatic environment, signal-to-noise ratio, observation range.
